Multiplayer BETA Announced for World at War (PC/360)
Sep 05, 2008 - 8:38 AM - by Danny

Activision and Treyarch have just announced that there will be a multiplayer BETA for both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of Call of Duty: World at War. This BETA is set to kick off this October, a month prior to the game's release on November 11.

Boot camp will soon take on a new meaning, as Activision Publishing, Inc. and developer Treyarch, have confirmed plans for Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer betas in October for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and separately for download on Windows PC. These betas will serve as an early chance for players to practice the tactics needed for survival in the intense chaos of Call of Duty: World at War's Pacific and European theaters. Players will experience the game's new squad system, as well as fan favorite perks and kill streaks.

All preparation for the full battle will commence on November 11, 2008 when Call of Duty: World at War is released to retailers nationwide.

"We are excited to share a sneak peak of Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer with the community," says Mark Lamia, Treyarch Studio Head. "The team has worked hard to build upon the great history and foundation of Call of Duty multiplayer and we can't wait to go online to ramp up for our November launch."

Crysis Warhead Multiplayer Q&A
Aug 16, 2008 - 11:32 AM - by Danny

GameSpot has posted up a brand new Q&A today with multiplayer producer Eric Lagel and producer Bernd Diemer. Take a look:
GS: How will the core multiplayer gameplay of Crysis be improved in Crysis Wars? How will the use of nanosuits and vehicles be tweaked, for instance? Are any of Crysis Wars' new multiplayer elements the result of elements that didn't quite make it into the original game, such as capture the flag?

EL: There is a lot that has been tweaked and improved in Crysis Wars. The nanosuit now regenerates faster in order to [let players use it] more often, but also doesn't regenerate while you are in combat for better readability. The whole weapon system has been rebalanced in order to provide a faster frag rate, within a consistent pricing system. Vehicles have been rebalanced to reduce the VTOL overpowered position; to provide a better driving sensation for cars; and to have better survivability for tanks against rockets, amongst other things. The new Team Instant Action game mode is certainly a delivery that we hoped we could have delivered with Crysis, but we needed to work on it more. Now it arrives in Crysis Wars.

GS: Remember a few years ago when simply shooting trees in demos of Crysis blew everyone's mind? What graphical flourishes will blow our minds in Warhead?

BD: I remember the trees very well. When we demoed Crysis for the first time at E3, everybody shot trees. When we drove back to the hotel, I wanted to shoot every palm tree I saw. I dreamed of shooting trees. At Crytek, we make sure that there are what we call "Wow moments" in every level. For example, the ice shaders are absolutely stunning. We also have global ambient lighting--you could call it the Warhead shader, it makes the world gritty and sharper.

FFOW Conquer mode!
Aug 11, 2008 - 9:40 AM - by Danny

Total FFOW has posted an exclusive interview for the up and coming game mode in Frontlines: Fuel of War, called Conquer. Check it out:

We’ve been getting a lot of questions about Conquer, our upcoming free additional game mode for Frontlines: Fuel of War. We wanted to take a few minutes to give our fans a quick update by answering some of the most frequent questions:

Q: How many maps will support the new Conquer game mode?

A: Every map that has shipped with the game and will be released as downloadable content will support BOTH the Frontlines and Conquer game modes. If you count the 8 release maps, the recently released Boneyard and the four upcoming maps (Infiltration, Wide-Awake, Sunder and Hindsight), you’ll have a total of 13 maps to experience in both game modes.

Q: Have you reduced the size of any of the maps for Conquer?

A: No! We have not made any modification to the topography or size of our levels, no need to worry about a stripped down version of Solarfarm or Oilfield.

Q: What are some of the changes we can expect in the Conquer levels?

A: Conquer plays differently than Frontlines. In order to provide the best Conquer experience possible we have made balance changes in some maps which includes tweaks to the vehicle selection and placement along with re-balancing the layout and default ownership of some objectives.

Q: Can main bases be captured?

A: No! The game mode is about controlling the battleground. Allowing for the capture of main bases would take focus away from this goal and reward base campers, something we’d all like to avoid. Note that some maps such as Street do not have a single, defined, main base due to their circular nature. In those cases every objective can be captured since there are no main bases to focus on.

Everyone at Kaos Studios is very excited about this addition to the game and can’t wait to play it with everybody online soon. Keep an eye out for an announcement on a release date!
